Q & A with the Island House On Camano
What is the story behind the Island House on Camano:?
The Island House on Camano has had an interesting path ... the timber frame home was designed and built off the trees on the land by my husband, Noah, and his children. Life changed and we wanted to hold on to the house but couldn't live in it, so we thought we would try vacation rentals ... before Airbnb. The business seemed to have a life of its own. We went from renting in the summers to renting year round, from traditional vacation rentals to workshops and wedding. Over time, we found that small, intimate, nature-focused weddings for up to 50 people was our niche. Couples have enjoyed the opportunity to personalize the experience, as the property accommodates 16+ guests and has a variety of outside venues.
What is special about your venue?
The venue is the quintessential northwest experience of forest, water and wildlife in a uniquely private setting. Being at the end of a private road, and surrounded by forest and wild life ponds, every view offers a diversity of natural beauty. The back yard overlooks the 20-acre wildlife pond. The front yard faces forest, small pond and gardens.
What amenities do you have to offer?
There are three areas to choose from for your intimate wedding: under a beautiful 20-foot octagonal tent, overlooking the 20-acre wild life pond in the back of the house; under a grape arbor in the front of the property; or next to an exquisite sculpture designed by our daughter in a more remote area of the property. We work closely with each couple to individualize their experience. We offer the venue and can recommend local resources for catering, etc.
What is your favorite memory of a wedding at the Island House?
We always meet with couples before agreeing to rent, as it must be the right match for all of us. Once we meet and agree, we closely communicate with the couple around their thoughts and needs. One of the weddings developed in to an extended stay with camping as well as house accommodations. They have stayed connected with us to let us know how much it meant to them to have the freedom to create their most precious memories.
